Getting to Annapurna Base Camp

There are many trailheads to reach the Annapurna Base Camp. After the drive of Nepal Government to extend the road network, the trekking routes have shortened. The Annapurna region of Nepal is also affected by the initiation of Nepal Government in the field of Road construction. However, the upper section and the authentic Himalayan walking are still intact in the route. Pokhara is the major city from where trekkers embark on the journey of Annapurna Base Camp. Nayapool or Birethanti is the major trek starting point. You can reach the place either by jeep or local bus to this place. However, there is two options for the travelers to reach Pokhara valley. Ghorepani Poon Hill Section in Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Route

However, during the Annapurna Base Camp Trekking in Nepal, trekkers have to traverse through the Ghorepani Poon Hill section. The place is the most popular short trekking destination. It is mainly habituated by the Gurung and Magar community. There are numerous teahouses and lodges. The place is also famous for the sunrise or sunset experiences. Moreover, if you love to capture the majestic Himalayan sceneries, the place is the most ideal one.

Why Annapurna Base Camp Trekking is also called Annapurna Sanctuary Trek?

Some people call the Annapurna Base Camp Trekking as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek as well. The route is within the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). From the base camp of the Mt. What are the permits required for the Annapurna Trekking?

You need to get two trekking permits in order to do the trekking. The first one is the ACAP permit and the second one is the TIMS permit. ACAP stands for the Annapurna Conservation Area Project and TIMS stands for the Trekkers’ Information Management System governed by the Nepal Tourism Board and Trekking Agencies’ Associations of Nepal respectively.

Travel Insurance and Difficulty level in Annapurna Region Trekking

Every trekking trip in Nepal requires travel insurance mandatorily. The Annapurna Base Camp Trekking is not an exception. Therefore, you need to buy the travel insurance prior to the trip commencement. The trekking agency will do the insurance of the trekking crew members. However, you need to do your insurance yourself. The plan must include the provision of the helicopter rescue, medical expense and accidents. In terms of the difficulty level in the Annapurna Base Camp Trekking, it is regarded as the easy and moderate trekking route. Even if the trekkers reach up to 4130 m from sea level, the risk of high altitude sickness is very less. In contrast, if you are going to the Everest Region of Nepal, there is the high risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). The trekkers with the sound physical fitness and proper dietary habit can easily complete the trip of Annapurna Base Camp.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: On arrival in Kathmandu meet our staff for transfer to hotel

On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuwan International Airport received by our staff and guide with warm welcome and greetings and then transfer to your hotels in the heart of Kathmandu city.

After checking into your rooms getting refreshed from Jet-Lag, a quiet environment after getting refreshed join at main hall or in lobby where our guide will provide briefing on treks-hotels with necessary information.

Evening includes group dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant with folk culture program with various dances of Nepal while having your authentic Nepalese dinner with local entertainment.

Day 02: Drive to Pokhara 860m (220 k.m distance) of 06/07 hrs journey

Morning after breakfast transfer for the drive to scenic Pokhara, leading you on Nepal’s main busy Highway with exciting views of distant peaks and green landscapes, as drive leads past many farm villages and towns to reach at Pokhara after 6-7 hrs of interesting overland journey.

Pokhara, blessed with natural beauty located on the laps of massive Annapurna Himalaya includes majestic Machapuchare Himal ‘Fish Tail’, due to its twin summits, a virgin unclimbed peaks of Himalaya.

Besides mountains and rolling green hills treasures calm lakes of Phewa and Begnas where most of the good hotels and international standard restaurants located by the Phewa Lake. (For flying options to Pokhara 30 minutes of short scenic flights from Kathmandu)

Day 03: Drive to Bhirethati and trek to Tirkhedhunga 1,545 m - 02 hrs drive with 03 hrs walks.

After a pleasant stop in Pokhara with marvelous views of Annapurna Himalaya with magnificent Machapuchare Himal, completing breakfast an exciting drive of few hours beyond Pokhara valley to reach our starting point to Ghorepani and Pun Hill trekking.

Drive leads past Pokhara valley outskirt with marvelous scenery of Annapurna peaks and farm lands and then reaching much warmer areas of Nayapul town by the road side of Pokhara and Beni highway.

From here following Modi River to a nice and lovely village at Bhirethati to begin our first day walks through farm villages with uphill on stone paved steps to reach at Tirkhedhunga for overnight stop. Tirkhedhunga a small farm village with wonderful waterfalls close to the lodges, with time to get refresh in the cool waters.

Day 04: Trek to Ghorepani 2,840 m via Ulleri village - 06 hrs.

Morning from Tirkhedhunga, where our first day walks starts with uphill climb on nice stone paved steps leading up to Ulleri village, and then with gradual slow climb entering into cool shade of forest full of rhododendron-magnolia-oaks and pines trees as walk progress reaching top of Ghorepani village also called at Deurali.

Here the temperature gets cooler being close to the mountains with an altitude of above 2,840 m high surrounded by rhododendron woods with fantastic views of Dhaulagiri Himalaya with Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Nilgiris against blue colored houses of Ghorepani, populated by hill tribe Pun Magar.

Day 05: Morning Hike to Poon Hill 3,210 m and trek to Tadapani 2680 m - 05 hrs.

Early morning before breakfast hike up to Poon Hill for stunning sunrise panorama over array of Himalayan peaks of more than 360° wide angle views from Dhaulagiri-Nilgiris-Vara Shikar (Annapurna Fang), Annapurna range of peaks with majestic Machapuchare extends towards Lamjung Himal and Manaslu towards eastern horizon, after a wonderful moment head back to Ghorepani for breakfast and Carry on trekking into deep rhododendron forest with climb up to Deurali with grand views of snow capped peaks.

Day 06: Trek to Chomrong village at 2,170m - 06 hrs.

With morning grand views walk is pleasant into cool shade of woodland with downhill to reach near Kimrong valley past Gurjong village, and then uphill walk to Chomrong with short descend for overnight at Chomrong village populated by Gurung tribe of Buddhism religion and culture. Chomrong the last permanent village and the gateway to Annapurna base camp and sanctuary offering views of Annapurna South, Huinchuli and Machapuchare peaks.

Day 07: Trek to Dovan 2,600 m via Bamboo 2,310 - 06 hrs.

Morning walk leads to a river, after crossing a bridge then climb up to Sinuwa danda (ridge) at 2,360 m high, an isolated spot with small shops and few lodges.

From here walk into deep forested areas of oaks-rhododendron and pines trees with short steep descend to Bamboo, a small settlement with some lodges within forest of bamboo groves by the raging Modi River.

After Bamboo an hour or more climb leads to Dovan for overnight stop situated high above Modi River Gorge houses 2-3 nice lodges for overnight stay.

Day 08: Trek to Machapuchare Base Camp 3,700 via Deurali 3,200 m - 05 hrs.

After a sound and peaceful overnight stop at Dovan with the rhythm flow of Modi River, morning walk enters higher areas within deep forest to reach Himalaya Hotel, located on the bottom of Huichuli peak and near overhanging Cave called Hinko.

From here downhill to cross an ablation of old avalanche filled with rocks and moraine, then climb to Deurali.

After Deurali with possible lunch stop as walk leads higher on leaving tree lines behind following Modi River upstream all the way to overnight stop at Machhapuchare base camp above 3,700 m high, located beneath high peaks of Machhapuchare Himal North Face.

Day 09: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m - 03 hrs with free afternoon.

Our walk finally leads to our main destination at Annapurna base camp within picturesque Annapurna Sanctuary, where morning trek starts into sanctuary from MBC heading higher areas with short climb of few hours to enter into scenic spot at sanctuary enclosed by amphitheatre of peaks.

After few hours of nice and scenic walk reaching our highest point of the adventure at Annapurna base camp with 4,130 m high, the only place in Himalaya with comfort of nice and cozy lodge to stay, with free afternoon to relax and enjoy views of Annapurna I (8,091m / 26,545ft) Annapurna South (7,219m23,693ft), Gangapurna (7,455m-24,457ft) and Annapurna III (7,555m-24,787ft), including to Mt. Machhapuchare (Fish-tail) at 6,790 m stretches up towards Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli and Fluted Peaks or Singu Chuli.

Day 10: Trek back to Bamboo 2,310 m - 06 hrs.

After a fabulous moment and time at base camp with superb views of mountains, then retrace the walk downhill back into tree lines with few short ups to reach Bamboo for overnight stop.

Day 11: Trek to Jhinu Danda (hot-spring) 1,780 m - 05 hrs.

From Bamboo walk leads on leaving the gorge and Modi River behind with a climb to Khuldi-Ghar and into forested areas, a short gradual walk leads to Sinuwa danda, from here downhill to Chomrong River, with an hour climb on stone steps to Chomrong for possible lunch break.

After Chomrong a short climb to reach a top ridge and then our route change taking an alternative trail to reach Pokhara, where a short downhill brings you Jhinu village for overnight stop, located on a ridge top, a short walk downhill reaches you at hot-spring by the Modi River for refreshing dip in warm natural spring pools.

Day 12: Trek to Siwai 2 hrs) then drive back to Pokhara 820 m - 2 hr.

Our last day of the walk of fast and express Annapurna Base Camp trekking ends back at Siwai on downhill walks, where drive takes you back at scenic Pokhara city by the Phewa Lake, with time to stroll around the lake side full of international standard restaurants, stores and shops.

Day 13: Drive or fly to Kathmandu and then transfer to your hotels.

Morning transfer into a vehicles either by car-coach or in tourist bus (as per the size of the group), for overland journey back to Kathmandu with scenic views of mountains, green scenery of hills and farm fields within nice villages and towns as drive brings you back at hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu.

On reaching Kathmandu transfer to your respective hotels with time for individual activities and shopping souvenirs.
